RELEASE - Odysseus 1.0b14 [do not post to update sites]

Postby Matt Milano » Wed Jan 28, 2009 1:19 am

We'd like to announce the release of Odysseus 1.0b14. Thanks to everyone for your patience, as it took an extra day or two to track down the necessary bugs.

Beta 14 is primarily a bug-fix release that addresses these issues...

Interface
- When closing a tab in Unified Mode, if a message is not selected the message list will scroll to the bottom instead of top
- When clicking OK, the Accounts Preferences will warn if information is entered incorrectly, rather than simply closing the preferences window
- Fixed crash in Unified mode when selecting a mailbox or new tab when Unified window is closed
- When re-opening closed Unified window, the mailbox list is now displayed
- In Unified Mode, now displays status of outgoing and incoming messages simultaneously
- Fixed several issues that could cause a crash when changing from Unified to Classic Mode (Mac OS X)

Checking
- Fixes an issue that could cause some individuals experience a problem checking POP3 email with Beta 13

Sending
- Addressed a number of issues leading to more reliable sending
- Corrected the X-Mailer header when sending a Queued or a Timed Queue message

Encoding
- Improved Odysseus' handling of deprecated encodings (such as Mac OS Roman, which has been replaced by UTF-8)
- Fixed an issue that could cause the Euro symbol to display incorrectly

Logging
- Much more detailed logging when retrieving POP3 email

Due to the critical nature of the bugs that are addressed in this build, we didn't get to work on a number of features that were originally planned for B14. Therefore, B15 will focus on the following areas:

Windows Interface issues (Main window resizing, etc)
Windows Greek Encoding
Fully Functional Window Menu
Misc Stability Improvements

Download links removed due to pending releasing of Beta 15

Thanks again... and keep the feedback coming.

Matt,

Still some pretty big issues:

1) clicking a column to sort creates duplicates of all the messages (even when the list fills the window) ad infinitum. No sorting actually occurs. The messages are still phantoms (close the window and they all disappear).

2) still crashes when clicking on mailboxes in Mailboxes window to open them. Usually takes three or four clicks, but sometimes fewer.

Erik,

1) We're working on it.

2) Are you clicking on mailboxes, or on folders?

Matt,
Odx still hangs sometimes when trying to download messages. I am pretty sure that these messages have attachments. Last time (B13) it was a DOC file. This time (B14) it was an XLS file. Once this file is removed from the server, download proceeds normally.

So far:
1. No warning after trashing b13, installing and launching b14
2. Traffic downloading performs without hitches.
3. 'Make Filter' still inoperative, generating filters manually possible and works.
4. Name of mailbox still shows in bold, even when all the messages it contains have been read. It is still necessary to change manually the message(s) status to get the mailbox name to be displayed in plain.
5. Changing fonts, and fonts size, in Preferences/Font & Display, and quitting/relaunching Odysseus displays correctly the selected font
6. A message in HTML format, that previously displayed showing plain text and HTML tags, even when Preferences/Fonts & Display was set to default HTML, now shows correctly, with full colors :-) when the setting is HTML default, only. According to what's indicated in Preferences/Fonts & Display. This doesn't comply with "...Odysseus will then display the alternative." Picture capture attached.

Many steps forward, keep them coming and THANKS!

Impossible to check mail: after sending TOP to server Odysseus enters a process from which i never returns. STOP has no effect and only closing down the application works.

Cefe,

Send your Log File (Odysseus Folder, Logs, Odysseus Log.txt) to dev@infinitydatasystems.com.

That should help us determine what's going on.

Checking mail now works again.

The swedish letters åäö (a+ring, a+two dots, o with two dots) sent in plain text no longer displays correctly, all of them are replaced with a -rotated black square with a questionmark inside-sign. The subject line dispalys correctly.
If I send with styled text (Eudora) it displays correctly with Odysseus.

I just received an email from what seems to be created with Apple mail. Here the Swedish letter are still wrong but replaced with other combination of letters. It displays correctly in Eudora.

BTW. I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11 on a MacMini Intel.

When will the address book be fixed (both, the import from Eudora to Odysseus as well as the funcitonality of the address book itself)? See my two entries in the bug tracking system.

Thank you, Christian
