Crash.... (XP brings up box that says "Ody... encountered a problem...")

This sequence was done as the first thing after uninstall/reinstall Odx. The preference boxes do contain some of my changes/entries from previous encounters with Odx, but no entries were made during this sequence.

We actually caught this bug in our testing, and ahve it addressed in B15.

We should have B15 in the next day or two.

I'm new here -- just paid my dollars as I really want a good replacement for (Macintosh) Eudora, which I've been using since sometime around 1993-1994....

However, both times I've tried Odx, first a couple of months ago, and now with beta 14, it hangs on importing my Eudora mailboxes - barely gets even 10% of the way through.

Is this a known problem?

Not that the app actually 'hangs' -- I just get what I assume is a pretty standard Odx messages saying that somethine untoward has happened and that I should report what was doing. Merely trying to import my Eudora mailboxes to test how painless/painful a conversion from Eudora to Odx is going to be.....

Cheers

Allan,

This is a known problem, and one that we're working on. Each build of Odysseus has done a little better than the previous one, and B15 is no exception. We're addressing a number of issues with it that should be a significant improvement on importing over B14.

Well, I wonder if something is developing?

The Mantis server seems to be "down."

We are prepping B15 (probably have it tomorrow) but that's about it. Just checked the Mantis site and it appears to be working.

odd time display

Postby paul-ny » Sat Feb 14, 2009 5:43 pm

This is very trivial, but I noticed that the last two emails I received showed the wrong time in the Unified mail list, until getting sorted, by any category, at which point the time became correct. I don't know if this happens all the time or not; both emails were notifications from Facebook, and in both cases the time that first showed was three hours earlier than my local time; Facebook is located in California and I am in New York, so I assume that I'm seeing the sender's time zone on a temporary basis.

Edit: (I could check after getting more Facebook notifications): Going to another mailbox and back also corrects the time. By the way, the mailbox showing the wrong time is not my In box, it's a mailbox I created for Facebook notifications.

I hope that Beta 15 will show more header info in an individual email window than shows so far: all that's there is From, To and Subject-- not Time, Date, or Cc.

With regard to the mailbox hang, I found that using a / in the mailbox name seems to cause it. I could ask for a bug fix but it might be easier to rename the mailbox! IN the logs you can also find the specific e-mail that it hangs on... but I wouldn't give up Eudora just yet. I think we'll be at b19 before I move over... though I'd sure like to.

And to think, two years ago I was enthused about the moribund Penelope! (Until the first beta. Then I started looking at PowerMail and such, until Odysseus arose.)

beta 14, message selection issue

Postby paul-ny » Sun Feb 15, 2009 5:26 pm

I'd be posting this in the Mantis bug tracking site but it's down right now.

Having the focus on an individual message open in its own window apparently does not select it for replying or forwarding. The message must be selected in the message list. It's possible to have the focus on one message while a different one is selected in the message list, in which case clicking "reply" will open a new message addressed to the address from the message list. It's also possible to be looking at a message while nothing is highlighted in the message list, in which case trying to reply, etc., will bring up a warning that a message must be selected. I think this has to change.

I agree, but I think that Eudora sometimes has the same behavior. I've periodically deleted or replied to the wrong message.

I almost added to my posting that my Eudora works like Odysseus' Classic interface, and perhaps there's more of a problem distinguishing what's selected when the format is Unified. For me, when I have a message highlighted in my Eudora In box and I'm looking at a different message in its own window, clicking Command-R opens a reply to the message I was looking at, not the one in the In box-- though maybe your saying "sometimes" means that this can be unreliable.

I am hoping that Ody beta 15 will allow me to use Classic Interface without its constantly crashing and getting corrupted.
